Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble reading the ECU on my BMW F30 (2014 model) using KTag Master. The tool connects successfully and detects the ECU, but when I try to read the data, I get a communication error.

Here's what I've tried so far:

  • Checked all cable connections
  • Verified OBD port power (12V)
  • Tried different USB ports on laptop
  • Updated KTag firmware to latest version

The error message I'm getting is "Communication timeout - ECU not responding". Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

This is a common issue with BMW F30 ECUs. Here are a few things to check:

  1. Make sure you're using the correct protocol - BMW F30 uses MSD87 ECU, try selecting "Bosch MSD87" in KTag
  2. Check if the ignition is in position 2 (accessory mode) - not fully on
  3. Try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and reconnecting
  4. Some F30 models require a special adapter - are you using the BMW-specific cable?

Also, what's the exact ECU part number? You can find it in the engine bay or using a diagnostic tool.

Let me know and I can help you troubleshoot further!

Thanks for the quick response, TunerPro!

I checked the ECU part number - it's 8HP45. I was using the generic BMW protocol, so I'll try the MSD87 specific one as you suggested.

I do have the BMW-specific cable that came with the KTag kit. Let me try the ignition position 2 and battery disconnect trick.

Will update you guys on the results. Thanks again!
